Raymond Cole
An accomplished musician, educator and conductor, Raymond Cole is passionate about bringing students from all backgrounds together through music. As the instrumental director at East Longmeadow High School in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts he directs the band, orchestra and jazz programs, and also teaches Introduction to Drumming and Unified Music. Through these ensembles and classes, Raymond’s passion for music shines through. He is dedicated to creating a space where all of his students' voices are heard, valued, and celebrated.
In recognition of his inspiring work, Raymond received the Inspirational Teaching Award at Randolph Union High School in 2019 and in 2022, he was chosen to present “A New Approach to Diversifying Music Education” at TedxAPSU.
Outside of the classroom, Raymond is an accomplished composer, arranger and performer. He has arranged pieces for the University of Massachusetts Amherst Marching Band, University of Massachusetts Amherst Marimba Bands, the Governor's Own Marching Band and a collection of other ensembles. He holds a Bachelors in Music Education with a focus in percussion from The University of Massachusetts Amherst, a professional certificate in Jazz Arranging and Composition from Berklee College of Music and a Masters in Instrumental Conducting from Austin Peay State University.
His expertise has led him to work with a wide range of ensembles across New England and beyond, including the University of Massachusetts Chamber Choir, the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band, Illuminati Vocal Arts Ensemble, Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, The Gateway Chamber Orchestra of Tennessee, the Youth Wind Ensemble of Springfield and the Valley Winds.
When he’s not teaching or conducting, Raymond enjoys exploring western Massachusetts with his wife Erika, spending time with their two pets, Lilo and June, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors.
