Kyle Langer
Kyle Langer is a trombonist and educator based in the Minneapolis metro area. He grew up in a musical family and began his studies on piano at an early age. However, his band director handed him a trombone, not because Kyle wanted to try it out, but because his director noticed his “long arms.” As a devoted educator, he has run a small but successful studio since high school and has also taught guest lessons on orchestrating for trombone in large ensembles, as well as serving 2 years as a music theory teaching assistant.
His passions as a performer include an emphasis on chamber performances and in discovering and performing lesser-known pieces for the trombone. His talents have allowed him to work with emerging composers to debut their works and have led him to be a sought-after chamber musician.
As an educator, Kyle is focused on simplifying the approach to the instrument and putting the focus back on making beautiful music. His students have gone on to study music in college, and have auditioned successfully for various DCI Drum Corps programs. He enjoys working with groups of students, helping demystify the skills needed to play successfully together as a group.
Kyle’s flexible sound and vast experience allow him to fit in with a wide variety of ensembles. Highlighted performances are with the CCM Philharmonia at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, as a soloist with the Gustavus Wind Orchestra on tour, and as lead trombone with the Gustavus Jazz Ensemble for 3 consecutive years, as well as performing in various musicals across the country.
Kyle received a Bachelor of Arts from Gustavus Adolphus College where he studied with D. Scott Moore, and recently completed a Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music under Timothy Anderson.
