David Morris

David Morris is currently the Director of Bands and Strings at Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham, MA where he teaches Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, String Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and History of Popular Music. Prior to his appointment at Minnechaug he was the Director of Bands 5-12 for the Hatfield Public Schools in Hatfield, MA. David also taught in Brockton, MA as a Woodwind Specialist and a Middle and Elementary School Band Director. He is in his 4th year as Director of the Youth Wind Ensemble of Springfield, an ensemble based out of the Community Music School of Springfield that features student musicians from all over the Pioneer Valley and Northern CT. He is active in multiple state music education associations as the current Chair Elect of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association - Western District and the Western Massachusetts Representative and Summer Institute Co-Chair for MICCA.  David is a strong proponent of building a robust culture of community through the medium of performing ensembles. His ensembles are a place where all students' voices, thoughts and opinions are heard and valued. 

David earned both of his degrees from the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he received a B.M. (’13) in Music Education/Saxophone Performance and an M.M. (’17) in Wind Conducting. While enrolled at the university he was an active performer in both large and chamber ensembles and was also a member of the Minuteman Marching Band. He has performed in a wide variety of venues including Symphony Hall in Boston, Leamy Concert Hall at the USCG Academy, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, at CBDNA as a member of the UMass Wind Ensemble and at the Navy Saxophone Symposium as a member of the UMass saxophone studio quartet. He has also performed with the Valley Winds and Commonwealth Wind Symphony as an alto saxophonist. His conducting mentors are Dr. Matthew Westgate and Dr. James Patrick Miller.  David studied saxophone with Lynn Klock and has also studied with Jonathan Hulting-Cohen, James Merenda and Paul Alberta. 

In his free time he enjoys golfing and exploring Western Massachusetts with his two young daughters. He resides in South Hadley, Massachusetts with his wife Rachel and daughters Evelynn and Lianna.
